The energy-saving model emits little heat and has low-noise and flicker-free operation. It is made of PMMA and fitted with a ballast. The lamp measures 380mm in diameter and has a thickness of 75mm.
The product has a power rating of 21W and a voltage rating of 110/220V.
The mounting strap and threaded tube are set to the proper height and installed. Electrical connections are made and the fixture base is secured to the mounting strap. Light bulbs and glass dome are installed.
Replace your home's five most frequently used light fixtures, or the bulbs in them, with models that have earned the ENERGY STAR for energy efficiency. By making this change, a household can save more than sixty dollars a year in energy costs. The home's five most frequently used lights typically include:
• Kitchen ceiling dome light
• Living room table lamp
• Living room floor lamp
• Bathroom vanity light
• Outdoor porch or post lamp
Compact fluorescent lamps (CFLs) last up to 10 times** longer than standard incandescent light bulbs and can save you more than twenty-five dollars in energy costs over the life of the bulb.
Indoor spaces with high ceilings, such as factories, warehouses, big box retail stores, gymnasiums and all-purpose rooms are most often lighted by high-intensity discharge (HID) lighting systems.
Recently, manufacturers have begun offering specialized T8 and T5HO fluorescent fixtures as an alternative for high-ceiling applications. These fixtures provide distinct advantages versus HID fixtures. Traditionally, fluorescent lighting has dominated the <15 ft. ceiling height niche, but new technology has enabled it to be competitive with HID in higher ceiling heights, even over 25 ft.
Fluorescent lighting provides distinct advantages over HID lighting in applications with high fixture mounting heights; new lamp technology enables fluorescent to be competitive with HID at fixture heights as high as 35 ft.
Manufacturers offer new fluorescent fixtures that can be substituted for HID for relighting/upgrade as well as renovation and new construction projects. The market potential is significant. However, relighting projects typically require installation of new fixtures, which can inflate payback periods and reduce return on investment.
A second alternative to standard HID is pulse-start metal halide, which provides superior performance and, depending on the ballast, dimming capability. The right choice, as with all things in lighting, depends not just on economics, but on what capabilities the owner needs in their lighting system.
In this special report from the Lighting Controls Association, we will examine the advantages and disadvantages of fluorescent and metal halide in applications with high fixture mounting heights.
How to install a ceiling light?
STEP 1: Turn off the power to the light at the main circuit breaker or fuse box.
STEP 2: Remove all the screws securing the old fixture to the ceiling. Use a screwdriver and hold the fixture from the bottom as you work.
STEP 3: Lower the light a few inches to expose the wires, then unscrew the wire nuts connecting the wires coming out of the wall to the old light.
STEP 4: Set the old light aside.
STEP 5: Remove 1/2 inch of insulation from the wire ends of the new fixture with a wire stripper.
STEP 6: Lift the fixture into place and, using wire nuts, splice together the new fixture's neutral (white or gray) wires and the incoming neutral wires, and the fixture's and incoming hot wires (any color except green, white or gray).
STEP 7: Join the fixture to the grounding wires in the box if it also has a grounding wire (green or bare copper).
STEP 8: Tug on the wires to make sure all connections are secure.
STEP 9: Tuck the wires into the ceiling box and screw on the new light. If the new light's mounting holes don't match up with those of the old one, you may have to drill new holes.
STEP 10: Turn the power back on at the main circuit breaker or fuse box. |
